HERRINGBONE WALK (brick & mortar) - May 2004
Pretty, pretty, pretty......
This is probably the best foundation work I've ever done. Did I earn my badge yet? Oh, good.....then I'm calling a cement truck next time!
Dennis wants to know if I can put a slip coat of mortar over the foundation. A what?? Well, um...uh...sure. Used a wire brush and chisel to prep the old foundation, then coated the whole thing with concrete bond. Went by my standard guideline for trying something new: ANYTHING will be an improvement over what's there now!
I jokingly refer to the little section below as "the hardest $100 I ever earned". It truly was a creative and physical challenge to join the narrow walk into the arc of the doorstep, while rounding a curve, maintaining the glass/seashell inset sequence AND contending with a thorny rosebush!
I'm not gonna lie....I love how this turned out!! Even Bill from across the street likes it (esp. the glass ice cubes), and that's saying something!
If I follow the grade of the original walk, it should all be downhill from here!
